Toxic Plastic Smell
I used my air purifier for years 24/7. It is a great machine, very quiet and efficient. I loved it. However, the newer filters have a sickening plastic smell which makes it unusable! I have always bought my filters directly from Blue Air, so they are legit. They even replaced the last filter (due to smell), but the new one stinks just as bad. We couldn’t even stand to use it when our AQI was ~500. I am now stuck with an unusable purifier. Blue Air must have changed suppliers or formula. ☹️

Classic 400 Series Patticle Folter
While Blueair filtration systems and their HEPA filters are exceptional products, the cost of replacement filters is exorbitant. The price of 4 replacement filters ($90/each MSRP) over a typical 2 year period, (assuming typical 6 month replacement cycles) nearly equals the cost of the 400 series air purifier unit. Over 5 years, filter replacements would cost $900 at MSRP for a single unit. I own 5 units, so do the math. The Blueair "business model" is a bit analogous to the one used by manufacturers of ink jet and laser printers. The profit lies in the replacement of the perishables.
